This weekend, twenty-nine members of the Central Park Ice synchronized skating teams traveled to Lake Placid, New York to compete at the historic Herb Brooks Arena, and they all returned home as Empire State Games CHAMPIONS!
This achievement marks the first time that we have had multiple Empire State Games gold medalists in a single season, and it also gives Central Park Ice four state championships since we began attending the event four seasons ago (Open Juvenile – 2015 & 2018, Pre-Juvenile – 2016, Synchro Skills 1 – 2018).
In the first synchro event of the day, the Beginner team skated a strong performance of their “Try Everything” program to receive first place ordinals from 4 of the 7 judges. This is the team’s second gold medal in under a week, as they skated to first place at last weekend’s SCNY Synchro Invitational as well.
Competing in a field of nine teams, the largest of the event, the Open Juvenile team sparkled during their performance of their “La La Land” program, and charmed the judges and audience alike with their expression and strong skating skills. It was a solid win in what has proven to be a very unpredictable division this year, with first place ordinals from 5 of the 7 judges.
Up next for all of our teams is the Reflections Synchro Open on February 18, and we will then turn our focus to next season. Clinics and tryouts will start in April. Please visit centralparkice.com/tryouts for more information about how to join our teams!
